Add some serious Gypsy Soul festival feels to your walls in readiness for summer with this sassy and super cute Bohemian wall hanging made using a simple Granny Hexagon and a stick ... whilst stash busting your leftover yarns.

Summer is coming and I just love having a nice new excuse for adding a Bohemian festival vibe to just about EVERYTHING I can!

This little home living DIY project is so quick and easy and instantly lifts both your walls and your freespirit with some serious festival feels.

You will need:

  • Yarn - I used 4 colours:
  1.  +Stylecraft Yarns Life DK in Aqua
  2.  +bmstores DK in Blossom
  3. Baby DK from  +LoveWilko in Apple and
  4. King Cole Neon DK in Bubblegum
  • 4.5 mm crochet hook
  • Twig or stick courtesy of our dearest Mother Nature
  • Scissors
  • Yarn needle

The body of this Bohemian style wall art is the humble Granny Hexagon. If you are new to Crochet don't be daunted,  this DIY fibre art is super easy.

It's made up of a magic loop, treble (US double) crochet, and chain stitches.

If you can crochet a Granny Square, you can make a hexagon... it's just 6 cluster corners per round instead of 4. Simple.

How to Crochet the Granny Hexagon:

Round 1:

Start with a magic loop and chain 3 - this counts as your first treble (US double) crochet.

Make another 2 trebles into the loop and chain 2.

Crochet 3 trebles  (US double) into the loop and chain 2.

Repeat until you have 6 clusters, end with a chain 2 and join with slip stitch.

Cast off and weave in ends.

Round 2:

Join your next colour yarn into a corner space and repeat the 3 treble, 2 ch, 3 treble crochet into the same space. There's another corner.

Chain 1 and make a treble (US double) cluster into the next space followed by chain 1.

Repeat all the way around, putting 2 Treble clusters into each corner.

Cast off with slip stitch and weave in ends.

Round 3:

Join your 3rd colour yarn into a corner space and repeat the 3 treble, 2 ch, 3 treble crochet into the same space.

As in Round 2 repeat the pattern of 3 trebles and chain 1 (or 2 in the corners) just as when you crochet a Granny Square.

Cast off with slip stitch and weave in ends.

How to turn your awesome Crochet Granny Hexagon into Bohemian Interior Design wall art:

With a contrasting colour, I used King Cole's fabulous Neon DK in delicious Bubblegum, sew your hexagon onto the stick or Twig in loose loops using your needle.

Add a bunch of nice thick tassles in each chain space along the bottom side of the Granny Hexagon.

I usually just wrap the yarn over my hand but you can also use a piece of cardboard.

These tassles are 16 strands thick.

Add another two tassels to the middle chain spaces on either side.

Trim into a nice V shape and you are almost done.

To finish the project, take another length of yarn, around 25 cm long and wrap one end around the stick a few times and tie in a tight knot.

Repeat on the other side. This makes your hanger.
