Bored of your faithful old denim jacket? Fall back in love and save some dollar with a revamp and refashion and a little Crochet yarn bombing. Step by step tutorial here!

So I've had this idea in my little Crochet filled brain since last summer. The denim jacket is a staple but I wanted a little bit more from mine! When I saw this cute little worn out denim waistcoat in a local Sue Ryder charity shop for £3.95 I knew it was time to bring my crochet denim fusion to life!! 😁✌πŸŒΌπŸŒΉπŸŒΌπŸ’–πŸ’œπŸ’–

You will need:

  • Denim jacket
  • DK Yarn
  • Crochet hook
  • Scissors
  • Tapestry/Yarn needle
  • A little sass!

Step 1: grab yourself a denim jacket! This little aztec festival style one I picked up already had its sleeves removed, but if yours still has sleeveage, just chop them off so it looks like this...

To fray the armholes you can pop it in the hot wash.

Step 2: Make 4 regular crochet granny squares. These will be crocheted together into 2 tubes to become your new crochet sleeves!

As with all my patterns and tutorials, you can make these totally your own!

Embrace your creativity and make them in a block colour or mix it up a little like I did... you can also adjust the size by changing up the number of rounds or hook size.πŸŒˆπŸ’–πŸ’–πŸ’–

I am a size S or UK 8 and mine are made using a 4.5 mm hook and DK yarn and are 9 rounds each. If you want a little more room in your sleeves add a couple of rows to either side once the granny square is complete or to make them longer add at the top and bottom.

Basic rule, wrap the granny square around your arm to get an idea of fit and adjust accordingly.  πŸ˜˜πŸ’–πŸ’œπŸ’–✌

Step 3: you also want a fancy granny square for the back piece. If you like this puffy flower granny square I used here's the pattern...

Round 1: magic loop and ch 3. Then make 15 more tc (US dc) into the loop.

Round 2: turn your work a put a 6 y/o bobble stitch into each space.

Round 3: turn your work back right side facing and make 2 tc (US dc) and ch 1 into each space.

Round 4 to 7: square up your circular floral motif

Round 8 - 9 : now make regular granny clusters.

Step 4: now you have everything ready it's time to start your refashion! ! Yay! πŸ’–πŸ’–πŸ’–

Take 2 of your regular granny squares and right sides together join them along the top edge using dc (US sc) or slip stitch.

Now fold right sides facing together again long ways like this and again join with dc (US sc) or slip stitch.

Repeat with the other 2 granny squares.

You now have 2 arms.

Step 5: using your tapestry yarn needle sew on your arms just inside the armholes.

Make sure the seam is on the underneath.

Step 6: your fancy crochet granny square is going on the back of your denim jacket so line it up in a diamond shape with the corners in line with the bottom of the armholes.

To make it easy to stitch either pin it or put in 4 small little stitches at each point.

Now stitch around the edge of the granny square with a simple running stitch.

Step 7: my favorite part!! Fringing!! Using a contrasting colour add fringe tassels into each chain space between tc (US dc) clusters.

To fringe the arms, turn your jacket right side facing and again add tassels into each space between clusters along that seam to hide it.

Step 8: throw on over the top of your favourite outfit and graciously accept all the compliments coming your way for your awesome new Boho chic fringed denim jacket! πŸ˜„πŸ’•πŸ’•✌
